Another great way to experience some of the local flavors of a city is to visit farmer's markets and city markets. You can not only enjoy regional cuisine at city markets, but you can also shop for handcrafted items that may be unique to the city you're visiting. 

Enjoy outdoor activities in city parks

One free way to spend an afternoon in a city destination is to head to the city's largest park. Parks can allow you and your travel group to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors in your city destination. Do your research to find the largest and most attractive park in the city that you're visiting. 

People-watch at an outdoor café

If you get tired from all the sightseeing you've been doing, you can relax by finding a nice café near a prominent square or street in your city of interest. People-watching is a great way to experience the unique character and personality of a city.
